This all-new entry in the series is not to be confused with Americas Growlanser Generations compilation. With Growlanser V, Atlus has upped the technology for a series that has remained 2D since its debut in July of 1999. Characters are modeled in 3D for the first time, with the game no longer depicting Satoshi Urushibaras designs in super deformed style, opting instead for natural proportions. Backgrounds are pre-rendered, but have been created from a variety of angles. The games progression is a bit different this time around. As part of the new "Multi Role" system, Growlanser Vs storyline is split into chapters, each with its own hero. Each episode in a chapter has some effect on the other chapters.
